Story-telling that Cannes-Do!
Frames of Reference Films (FoR) is the runner-up in a national pitching competition to discover the best new film story.
The competition was held in the UK Pavilion at Cannes and is regarded as being one of the most prestigious events designed to find the best up-and-coming film projects. It is run by the UK Film Council - the key government body for developing film making in the UK.
“There were twenty of us in the competition”, explains Jenny Walker, Principal Producer with FoR films. “I had three minutes in which to tell my story - an inspirational tale of a lonely child seeking solace in a troubled world - to a panel of high flying film executives and an invited audience. It was extremely nerve-wracking but I am delighted at the outcome. It was a great forum for reaching the industry and as a result, I have already been approached by some senior executives, including Simon Bosanquet whose latest film ‘The Life and Death of Peter Sellers” was in competition at Cannes, and distributors including Verve who represent ‘Code 46′ and ‘A way of Life’; and a range of financiers. And I’ve been told that it is the film project most likely to succeed!”.
Jenny’s background in producing award winning documentaries, televised in both the UK and the USA, provided a firm foundation for becoming an independent producer. She established FoR films in 2000 and ‘Delilah’, her first short feature (filmed and produced in Bristol), was highly commended by BAFTA/Kodak at Cannes in 2001.
“The next step for us is to finalise negotiations to put this project into production”, adds Jenny. “I feel as if this win is not just for us at FoR films. Bringing an accolade like this back from an international film festival like Cannes also indicates the wealth of creative talent in the South West”.
FoR films is currently supporting a slate of feature length and short films.
